We would like to share important information regarding recent developments that may affect F and J visa applicants. According to multiple news sources, a cable dated Tuesday, May 27 has directed U.S. Embassies and Consulates to temporarily pause scheduling new visa interviews for student and exchange visitor visas.
The reported cable states:
“Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not add any additional student or exchange visitor (F, M, and J) visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued septel, which we anticipate in the coming days,” the cable states.
The U.S. Department of State has not released an official announcement, and UCF Global has not received any formal communication from government sources. We are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.
In the meantime, please consider the following guidance:
- If you already have a visa interview scheduled, you should proceed with your appointment as planned. Make sure to bring all the required documents. You can find a full list of visa application materials for F-1 student and J-1 exchange visitor visas.
- If you have not yet scheduled a visa interview, we recommend that you complete and submit your DS-160 application as soon as possible. Submitting the DS-160 is an important step that may be required before booking an appointment. Continue checking the U.S. Embassy or Consulate website and their social media channels for updated scheduling availability.
- If you are planning international travel this summer, please review the UCF Global Summer Travel Tips. If you will need a new visa to return to the U.S. and do not yet have an appointment, please prepare for possible delays.
For students who are unable to secure a visa appointment in time, UCF Global recommends the following options:
Option 1: Late Start
Students may request a late start, but this requires approval from their academic college or department.
Option 2: Online Classes
If available, students may be able to begin their program remotely by enrolling in online courses.
Option 3: Defer to the Next Semester
Students may request to defer their admission to the next available term.
