This assist students in different countries to develop intercultural competency through a shared learning experience. This is generally facilitated by numerous synchronous and/or asynchronous activities

Project Description: Students enrolled in the Ethnic and cultural diversity of the world course at the faculty of Political and Social Sciences in Universidad de Colima, will work virtually on a joint COIL project with students from the Legal Studies Department Property Law Class at the University of Central Florida. Students should develop as a team a product entitled “Advantages for my community of multiculturalism, integration and migration” using the Adobe Spark software.
Learning Outcomes:
- Improving cultural understanding and awareness by working together on multicultural teams.
- Understanding differences in the treatment of multiculturalism, migration, and integration in both countries.
- Identify and document a successful case that shows the advantages of migration, multiculturalism, and its integration into the community.
Participating Countries: Mexico, United States
Number of Participants: 30 UCF students: 30 UC students
Project duration: 5 weeks

Step 1: Information Session

Step 2: Finding Partnership
UCF Abroad will as assist faculty member in finding a partner. Please completed the faculty interest form and a member of the UCF Abroad office will reach out to schedule a meeting.

Step 3: Participating in Faculty Development
The Center for Distributed Learning has a 3 part faculty development training which is required for UCF faculty members and international COIL partners. These training sessions provides the faculty members to work on development of their COIL project and learn how to successfully implement COIL project within a course.
Step 4: Assessment
The Stevens Initiative is a multilateral public-private partnership designed to achieve the largest-ever increase in people-to-people educational exchanges between the U.S. and the broader Middle East. It is funded by the U.S. Government and administered by the Aspen Institute. They are a leader in virtual exchange
Steven Initiative has created a virtual exchange survey which allows us to assess global competency of students. The UCF Abroad office can administer this survey as a pre and post COIL assessment. Survey results can be used as a factor regarding the effectiveness of COIL project.
COIL Dashboard
The COIL dashboard tracks virtual exchange project completed by UCF faculty and their partners. This dashboard provides information on COIL student engagement numbers and the number of UCF courses that have implemented COIL projects.
