ENGLISH FOR AVIATION

English for Aviation is a 4-week online course designed for intermediate English users currently training to become pilots. The course supports the development of professional English communication skills needed to meet or exceed ICAO Level 4 proficiency, with a strong emphasis on pilot responsibilities in international airspace.

Learners will build their listening, speaking, and vocabulary skills through aviation-specific precision terminology practice and scenarios relevant to pilot training, in-flight operations, reporting, and emergency procedures. Using materials such as live recordings, flight documentation, weather reports, and incident transcripts, students will learn to communicate clearly, safely, and confidently in both routine and unexpected aviation situations.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
  1. Interpret aviation communications by accurately identifying key information from ATC recordings, weather reports, and flight documentation relevant to pilot operations.
  2. Use aviation-specific vocabulary and phraseology to describe flight operations, pilot responsibilities, and in-flight procedures with clarity and accuracy.
  3. Demonstrate effective spoken communication in routine pilot–ATC interactions using standard aviation English and appropriate pronunciation, pacing, and clarity.
  4. Respond appropriately to non-routine and emergency scenarios by providing clear verbal reports, requests, and confirmations using professional aviation communication strategies.
  5. Apply ICAO-aligned communication strategies to ensure safe and efficient information exchange in international airspace, including clarification, confirmation, and readback techniques.
