
MEDICAL VOCABULARY AND PRONUNCIATION IN INTERACTION
Through a focus on medical vocabulary building strategies, this course promotes students’ ability to understand and use key medical vocabulary in contextualized, medical workplace oral and written communication. Topics addressed include medical vocabulary structure and word building blocks (prefixes, stems, suffixes); key terms and collocations for general anatomy, physiology systems, and medical
technology; term pronunciation; and practical applications of medical vocabulary in a wide range
of healthcare contexts. The course also addresses key aspects of English pronunciation relevant to medical interactions such as intonation, stress/rhythm, thought groups, and offers remedial, sound-based training for Spanish-speaking students.
