Work Hours When School is in Session
Students maintaining valid F-1 or J-1 status may work on campus as employment is “incidental to status.”
Please remember:
- Students may work up to 20 hours per week total during the fall and spring semesters.
- This 20-hour limit applies to all combined on-campus positions.
- Students are responsible for monitoring your hours to ensure you remain within this limit.
Winter break
During designated school breaks, including summer and winter, F-1 and J-1 students may work more than 20 hours per week on campus.
For the upcoming winter break, please note the following:
- Until December 12, 2025: The standard 20-hour weekly limit still applies.
- December 13, 2025 – January 11, 2026: Continuing students are permitted to work more than 20 hours per week.
- Beginning January 12, 2026: The 20-hour weekly limit resumes under immigration regulations.
