VERSANT ENGLISH TEST

The Versant English Test is used to measure the communicative competence of non-native English-speaking graduate students under consideration for teaching associate and teaching assistant positions at the university. UCF Global is responsible for administering the test.

Registration Information:

Students must register in advance for the Versant Test. Registration is an online process. Please choose a date from the list below, then click on “register”. Follow the steps online to complete registration for the Versant Test.

The university provides you with free English-speaking training if your score is between 58 and 68 on the initial Versant Test. To qualify, you must take your initial test at the beginning of the Fall or Spring semester.

ACADEMIC ORAL COMMUNICATION AND CULTURE (AOCC) - REQUIRED

The goal of this course is to familiarize participants with the academic culture and teaching concepts and methodologies implemented in classes at universities across North America. Emphasis is placed on oral communication skills and strategies to deliver effective instruction.

AOCC COURSE ELIGIBILITY
Prospective and current international GTAs, post-doctoral students, International Visiting Scholars, and new faculty.

NOTE: The AOCC course can also help graduate students who scored between 59 and 69 on the initial Versant Test.

ADVANCED PRONUNCIATION FOR ACADEMIC COMMUNICATION (APAC) - OPTIONAL

This course is designed to help improve oral English intelligibility through individualized accent reduction training and American English pronunciation skill development. The focus of the course will be on the specific mechanics of producing target American English sounds, stress and rhythm in English, natural speech phenomena (reductions, linking, blending), as well as different types of intonation patterns. Students will benefit from individualized pronunciation error analysis, in-class and online practice, and feedback.

APAC COURSE ELIGIBILITY
Prospective and current international GTAs, post-doctoral students, International Visiting Scholars, and new faculty.

NOTE: The APAC course can also help graduate students who scored between 59 and 69 on the initial Versant Test.

  • Must complete AOCC Seminar Project (The seminar project is a capstone project where participants can demonstrate and apply all newly learned techniques)
  • An additional Versant exam is required at the end of the semester’s training
  • You may be employed as a GTA Assistant provided you meet other SACs-related qualifications
59 or less (optional) UCF GLOBAL ONLINE ENGLISH PROGRAM (OEP) COURSES
