According to multiple news sources, the U.S. Department of State has resumed processing student visa applications following a temporary pause. Alongside this resumption, a new policy change has been introduced. Student and scholar visa applicants are now required to make their social media accounts publicly accessible for government review as part of the visa vetting process.

This change affects all applicants for F-1, J-1, and M-1 visas. Consular officers are now directed to review publicly available content on applicants’ social media accounts to assess for any indicators of hostility toward the United States or intent to engage in harmful activity. According to officials, refusal to comply with this may result in the denial of the visa.

Students are strongly encouraged to review the official documentation requirements available on the U.S. Department of State website at travel.state.gov, and to ensure their social media accounts are accurate and publicly accessible prior to their interview. As always, UCF Global is available to provide additional support and answer any questions related to the visa process.
